A taste of France is set to arrive in Coventry after Café Rouge agreed a deal to open its first restaurant in the city centre.

Café Rouge, which is owned by the Tragus Group which also owns the Bella Italia brand, will occupy the unit at Belgrade Plaza next to the existing Bella Italia restaurant.

Peter Deeley, of the Belgrade Plaza Partnership, said the arrival of another new brand to the city was a testament to the quality of the development.

He said: “This was an exciting opportunity for Belgrade Plaza and the city to add to its growing portfolio of restaurants and we are pleased we were able to attract Café Rouge to Coventry.

“The company has seen the success other restaurants, such as Bella Italia, have enjoyed at the site in previous years and this will certainly have played a part to move to this successful development.

“It is taking one of the most prominent units in the development which will also give it excellent profile.”

The Tragus Group operates almost 300 sites across the country and this is Café Rouge’s first venture into Coventry.

Jonathan Havenhand, from Café Rouge, said: “Our Bella Italia restaurant trades very well from this location and it was a natural step to open our Café Rouge brand also which should complement the existing restaurants and theatre well.

“The restaurant will have 120 covers plus an external seating area and will be open from 9am to 11pm every day”.

Cllr Lynnette Kelly, city development portfolio holder at Coventry City Council, said: “This is fantastic for the city and yet further widens the leisure offer – something we know if important in our constant drive to improve the city centre.

“We welcome Café Rouge with open arms and we are sure they will bring economic benefits and employment opportunities to the city.

“This latest addition will see Belgrade Plaza become a real continental food quarter and it is a development with great potential.”

The restaurant will serve a wide variety of French cuisine and wines as well as speciality dishes including boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin and garlic mussels.
